Long Ball and Fastest Runner Competition
the registration for this event is now closed.
This year at opening ceremonies, at the Mohawk Soccer Complex, at approximately 5:30PM, we will be conducting a fundraiser in the form of the fastest runner and long ball competition. All details about these competitions are listed below.
Please provide your player nominations for participation no later than Sunday, July 21st, 2019. Athletes nominated after July 21st will not be able to participate.
Both the fastest runner competition and long ball competition will be a fundraising and membership engagement opportunity in the form of a 50-50 raffle and friendly competition that comes with some bragging rights.
If you would like to participate, the Indy Thunder, Bayou City Heat, San Antonio Jets, Dynamic Divas and Southwest Bombshells, will each have two possible athlete nominations for the fastest runner and long ball competition. Every other team will be able to have one athlete nomination per event.
For example, if you get one athlete nomination, then you can have athlete A compete in the fastest runner competition and athlete B compete in the long ball competition, or you can elect to have athlete A compete in both competitions.
If you have two athlete nominations afforded to your team, you can nominate any 2 athletes to compete in both competitions, but you cannot have more than 4 athletes total competing.
Example 1: athletes A and B in the fastest runner; and athletes C and D in the long ball competitions.
Example 2: athletes A and B in the fastest runner; and athletes A and C in the long ball competitions.
The 50-50 Raffle
Tickets will be sold for each competition. We will only be accepting cash. Tickets for the long ball competition and fastest runner competition will be separated.
Each member can purchase up to 5 tickets for the fastest runner competition, and 1 ticket for the long ball competition.
The Fastest Runner tickets will be $2 and the Long Ball tickets will be $5.
Fastest Runner Competition
For the fastest runner tickets, participants will select a time for the fastest runner, and this time will be down to the 1/100 of a second. For example, 4.99 seconds. If you pick the time of the fastest runner, then you win the 50-50 raffle.
If there is a tie, the proceeds will be shared between the winners. Tickets are $2 each.
An electronic timing system will be used to time each athlete’s effort, where the time will begin when the athlete crosses the start line, and will automatically stop when they cross the finish line, so there is no question about the correct time for each athlete. Times will only be counted if you hit the base. If you run too far outside the baseline, and are likely to hit the timing gate equipment, an umpire will tell you stop and stop you from running into the timing gates. The timing gates have a maximum laser distance of 9 feet. So, every athlete has a 9 foot runway to stay inside. The base will be buzzing the entire time though, so you will have no doubt about which direction to run, even before you start running.
The top 6 fastest athletes will be crowned the 2019 speed kills team of the year, and each of the speed kills team will race one final time in a battle for the bragging rights of being the 2019 MVP of speed!
Long Ball Competition
For the long ball competition, each purchaser of a ticket will pick a distance in feet, such as 179 feet. If the distance you pick is the distance of the longest ball, you win the 50-50 raffle.
If there is a tie, the proceeds will be shared between the winners. Tickets are $5 each.
Each athlete will have 120 seconds to hit as many balls as they can, as far as they can, and the furthest ball hit in the air before landing will be the winner. The top 6 athletes will be crowned as the 2019 big bat team of the year, and the athlete who hits the ball the farthest will be crowned as the 2019 Biggest Bat MVP.
4 WOOL athletes will also be competing, and will compete under the same rules as the male athletes, with the only difference being the top 3 athletes in each category will be on the speed kills team, the biggest bat team, and the top athlete in each category will respectively earn the MVP crown.
Transportation will be provided from the host hotel to the opening ceremonies to support full participation in the event.
Please submit your athlete nominations no later than July 21. , No late entries will be accepted. This is strictly on a volunteer basis. Participation by a team or athlete is not required.
Thank you and we look forward to bringing back these friendly competitions in a big way this year and every year going forward!
